I hope each of my sculptures and hand carved works of art touches you in a special way.
Tom’s life has been full of unexpected adventures. He confesses that his career path has been one of “serendipity”, where he has been blessed with a variety unanticipated opportunities. After achieving success in the corporate, entrepreneurial and academic worlds, he is now pursuing his dream in the world of sculpture.
Tom was born in Winston-Salem, NC to an artist mother and businessman father. Following an undergraduate degree from Davidson College and an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill, he entered the corporate world of a global company. After successful careers in both USA and international businesses, he left his executive position and began his own company. While pursuing his entrepreneurial dream, he began teaching at Wake Forest University, eventually accepting a full time faculty position at the Babcock Graduate School of Management, teaching marketing and directing the University’s Family Business Centers.
Only in recent years did he find his passion for sculpting. This flame was ignited by internationally known sculptress Earline Heath King. After 12 years, he retired from his faculty position in 2008 to follow his dream of becoming a professional sculptor.
Family, friends, animals and the outdoors have always been an important part of his life. Memories of these often guide his hands as he begins new creations. His works are unique and eclectic ranging from a young girl skipping along the beach…to a grandfather helping his grandson catch his first trout… a wounded soldier in battle, a wolf peeking around a tree… a young mother and her two daughters playing on the floor… a portrait of a much loved retriever with the original collar tags around his neck, etc. In most cases he has hand crafted the sculpture base out of local timber. Many creations rest on a wooden base crafted from a black cherry tree from the yard of his boyhood home.
